ABOUT JANET

Janet is a generalist psychologist who has been practising for over 20 years. She practices in Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychology. She is passionate about helping people to achieve happy and fulfilling lives.Janet treats most Clinical Disorders including Mood, Anxiety and Personality Disorders. These include, but not limited to Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD) , Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) , Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), addiction and substance misuse. Janet also provides Grief Counselling and is a Trauma Informed Therapist. She has a wealth of knowledge about relationships, family dynamics and acute mental health crisis situations.

Prior to psychology, Janet worked as a nurse in Victoria, Northern Territory and Queensland. Her nursing experience included Emergency, Critical Care and Cancer nursing. Areas of health psychology include chronic pain management, ALCOHOL DEPENDANCE SYNDROME (ADS), drug abuse, grief and loss, living with chronic disease, and weight management. She sees adults from 17 years to 90.

Janet utilises several therapies including, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Narrative therapy and Mindfulness. She is a practical psychologist who adapts therapy to individual’s needs and resources. She has helped many individuals return to work after trauma or debilitating anxiety, and has helped thousands of people improve their relationships with themselves and others.

Janet also understands that our lives are dynamic and constantly changing. Hard times can ‘creep up’ on us, and before we know it, we are feeling overwhelmed. A common situation we may find ourselves in is becoming addicted to alcohol or drugs to change our mood. Janet has extensive experience in Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation. She can help with harm minimisation, i.e., cutting down on alcohol and other substances, and counselling for behaviour change.

Janet has undertaken further postgraduate study in Domestic Violence (DV). She has keen insight into the dynamics of how Domestic and Family Violence and impacts our daily lives. Janet knows how domestic and family violence has a traumatic emotional and psychological impact on all those involved. More importantly she can assist you toward recovery.

Janet understands the trials and tribulations of parenting a child with a Neurotypical Disorder. Parenting a child, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to adulthood, has meant she has learned many strategies along the way, that she can share with her clients; ie: ‘Parenting Survival skills!!’.

MEET TANK…

Tank AKA: Personal Support Assistant and Part-time Practice Manager is my 6year old Boxer Dog. His favourite colour is ‘Bone’ , and favourite song, “Who Let the Dogs Out”!

After a lifelong career learning and helping humans in their relationships with self and others, I have found that the relationships we have with our animals are also extremely important. Many scientific clinical studies have revealed that contact with domestic pets can improve our mood and overall physical and mental health.

Janet always has time to listen to her clients stories about their own fur-babies if they want to share.
